Doctor Louie Coulis, MD, FACC Receives Certification in Echocardiography
October 28, 2019 – Coulis Cardiology is proud to announce the recertification of Echocardiography to Doctor Louie Coulis, MD, FACC after his completion and passing score of Special Competence in Adult Echocardiography. The National Board of Echocardiography, Inc, known for setting standards for knowledge in Echocardiography, advised that only about 75% of those that take this test receive passing scores.
Why is it so important to test and recertify?
The purposes of the certification process are to:
- Establish the domain of the practice of echocardiography for the purpose of certification.
- Assess the level of knowledge demonstrated by a licensed physician practitioner of echocardiography in a valid manner.
- Enhance the quality of echocardiography and individual professional growth in echocardiography.
- Formally recognize individuals who satisfy the requirements set by the NBE.
- Serve the public by encouraging quality patient care in the practice of echocardiography.
What are the Levels of Certification Available?
Certification is offered in
- Transthoracic 2-D and Doppler Echocardiography interpretation alone(t)
- Transesophageal Echocardiography (e)
- Transthoracic plus Transesophageal Echocardiography (te)
- Transthoracic plus Stress Echocardiography (ts), or comprehensive (c) which includes all three procedures above
- Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography
Physicians who have been certified in Transthoracic Echocardiography (or higher) by the NBE may apply for additional certification once their level of service meets the minimum requirements.
