Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA – March 8, 2013 – The Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) is pleased to announce that Louie Coulis, MD, FACC, passed the recertification examination in December 2012. Dr. Coulis is now entitled to designate himself as “Diplomate of the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology.”
Dr. Coulis has been practicing cardiology in Sheboygan, Wis., for more than 15 years. He earned his medical degree at Indiana University and completed his cardiovascular training at the Cleveland Clinic. He maintains board certification in both general cardiology and nuclear cardiology by the American Society of Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Coulis has participated as primary investigator in numerous national and international clinical trials. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
The purposes of the CBNC certification program are to establish the domain of the practice of Nuclear Cardiology for certification; to assess the level of knowledge demonstrated by Nuclear Cardiology specialists in a valid manner; to encourage professional growth in, and enhance the quality of, the practice of Nuclear Cardiology; to recognize formally individuals who meet the requirements set by CNBC; and to serve the public by encouraging quality patient care in the practice of Nuclear Cardiology.
CBNC has been recognized by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as a specialty board whose program meets the requirements for Authorized User status for 10 CFR 35.290 under the certification pathway (http://www.nrc.gov/materials/miau/med-use-toolkit/spec-board-cert.html).

The CBNC is a division of the Council for Certification in Cardiovascular Imaging (CCVI). CBNC was established in 1996 to develop and administer practice-related examinations in the field of Nuclear Cardiology. To date, 9,109 physicians have been certified in nuclear cardiology.
